Electrodes:
These are small, sticky patches that are placed on specific locations of the patient's body, such as the chest, arms, and legs. Electrodes detect the electrical signals produced by the heart and transmit them to the ECG machine.
Leads:
Leads are wires that connect the electrodes to the ECG machine. They carry the electrical signals from the electrodes to the machine for analysis and recording.
ECG Machine Unit:
The ECG machine itself is a device equipped with a display screen and various controls. It receives the electrical signals from the leads, processes the information, and produces a visual representation of the heart's electrical activity.
When performing an ECG, the healthcare professional attaches the electrodes to the patient's skin according to a standardized placement system. The machine records the electrical impulses generated by the heart as a series of waves displayed on the screen or printed on paper.
