Catheter:
This is a thin, flexible tube inserted into a vein to deliver fluids and medications. In pediatric sets, the catheter is typically shorter and smaller in diameter compared to adult sets.
Tubing:
The infusion set has a length of tubing that connects the catheter to the IV fluid bag or medication container. The tubing allows the fluid or medication to flow from the container to the patient.
Drip Chamber:
The drip chamber is a small, transparent chamber in the tubing that allows the healthcare provider to visually monitor the flow rate of the IV fluid. It helps prevent air bubbles from entering the patient's bloodstream.
Flow Regulator:
This component controls the rate of fluid flow through the tubing. It allows the healthcare provider to adjust and set the desired infusion rate according to the patient's needs.
Injection Port:
Some pediatric IV infusion sets include an injection port along the tubing. This port allows additional medications or fluids to be administered without disconnecting the IV set from the patient.
Safety Features:
Pediatric IV infusion sets may have additional safety features such as soft, flexible wings or adhesive pads to secure the catheter and prevent accidental dislodgement
