Urine collecting bagUrine bag
A urine collecting bag, also known as a urinary drainage bag or urine bag, is a medical device used to collect urine from patients who have difficulty emptying their bladder or are unable to do so independently. These bags are typically used in healthcare settings, such as hospitals or nursing homes, as well as for individuals who need to manage urinary incontinence at home.
The urine collecting bag is connected to a catheter, which is a flexible tube inserted into the bladder through the urethra. The catheter allows urine to flow from the bladder into the collecting bag, which is usually made of plastic and features a drainage valve or outlet to allow for easy emptying of the bag when needed.
There are two main types of urine collecting bags:
Leg bag:
A smaller urine bag designed to be worn discreetly on the leg. It is commonly used for mobile patients who can move around but may have limited bladder control.
Bedside bag:
A larger urine bag designed to be hung on a bedside rail or other support. This type is often used for bedridden or immobilized patients.
